Should You Rent or Buy Your Wedding Décor?

After working 100’s of weddings for over 10 years, we firmly believe that less is more when it comes to wedding decor. Renting beautiful, unique, functional statement items is the best way to dress up your event with a personal touch and often the most cost effective.

There are three primary benefits of renting décor. The first is not having to deal with any of it after your celebration. Renting items allows for the company to drop it off and pick it up and eliminates all of the logistical headache of shipping delays or breakage, identifying who will setup and strike your personal items, what trusted guest will take them home, and the attempt to resell the items. While you may find some items in bulk that may seem like a good deal, remember handling these items after the wedding is over can be overwhelming and gross - especially when handling used linens.

The second benefit is that renting tends to be the most cost effective, as long as you have no intention of using the item again. Be cautious about the idea of selling items to recoup your costs. Don’t underestimate the time it will take to clean and package the products and make the sale. We see that the market for used wedding items sells for typically less than 25% of the retail cost. While renting may feel more expensive don’t forget that if you purchase multiple items you will likely still have to pay for an event professional to set them up. If you rent items, set up is often included in your rental purchase. Most planners limit the amount of personal decor they will set up to protect their primary service of vendor and wedding party coordination.

The final benefit is that renting items is the most sustainable environmental choice. Have peace of mind due to knowing your rented wedding items will be used again once your big day is complete.

While renting wedding decor is our advised recommendation, for items that you feel you will use again purchasing makes sense. There will be some pieces that you may choose to use to decorate your home. For example, frames, cake stands, throw pillows in your lounge area can easily double as mementos around your house after the big day.
